Woo!

Good Morning Friends!!! It has been a productive week for us here on the build! Last week Todd told us that we were on track to have the plumber come out on the 2nd the electrician on the 3rd and the slab poured today... and we stuck to the schedule!!

This is when the plumbers were on site laying all of our pipes... we met with the electrician early that morning and by early I mean I had to be up by 6... gross. (my husband tells me it was more like 7:30, this is still equally as gross) haha :) Thankfully The Hubs got me some iced coffee to really get me going. He was a great guy to work with(the electrician not my husband)! He shares my hate for florescent lighting and has a passion for more outlets on my side of the bathroom! We threw him for a loop when we asked for 2 sets of floor plugs for the living room. We know that outlets are going to be an issue later on when we move in, that area is very wide open and we would have to run wires all over tarnation just to get a lamp plugged in, so floor outlets are the way to go. Where we have them is hopefully going to be covered by our couches. He was also great in helping us figure out our light switch situation. Ever been in someones house and hit a light switch and it turned out to be somewhere you didnt expect to light up?! Yea we lived like that in the last house for a while. I'm talking like two hands to turn on all the lights... then your switches are all mismatched... some up some down. crazy!

Today our slab was poured!! I know at every point I say that we have been waiting for this day to come  for a while but seriously thats how I feel this time. Its just feeling more and more real each day!
I dont know of any other contractor who sends their clients photo messages like Todd does for us. I think it helps that his house is just down the road from this job site. We headed out there shortly after he sent us this and they were complete! The sun is shining and its on its way to hardening up. I guess I need to get to work on some cupcakes for these guys!

Todd said that we are about 2 months ahead of schedule right now... my first feeling is to get super excited but then I remind myself that we live in Florida and it could be sunny and bright out and 5 min later we could have a thunderstorm. I do know that even with some contingency time added in we are looking like we are still going to be ahead of schedule! Our trusses are going to be coming in around the end of the month as well, shortly after we will have to put up our fence.

Our cabinet quote came back to us... $10,000 over budget and not including counter tops. I wish that we could see it so I could know where we need to make some changes. They originally told us that the black cabinets we picked were in stock, but now they have come back and said its a special order. Part of me feels like these cabinet people just went (pardon my french) balls to the walls and put in every bell and whistle they could think of. I know I want a nice kitchen and bathrooms but I also know when I need to scale back. Not every drawer and space needs to be custom, I am going to have a huge pantry so most of my smaller appliances (like my beautiful mixer) dont need to have an extra pull out drawer or be stowed away behind closed doors. We are going out to get some more quotes in the next few weeks. We have an appointment scheduled for monday at Lowes, we will be more in control of the cabinet upgrade situation this way too. We will probably be going to a few more cabinet shops around town as well. Fingers crossed that we wont be running late on this part of the deal.
